Professional Radon Testing
Radon testing measures the concentration of radon gas inside a home. Testing is the only way to determine whether radon levels are elevated and whether mitigation may be recommended.
Types of Radon Tests
Radon tests are typically categorized as short-term or long-term, depending on the testing period and purpose.
- Short-term testing: Conducted over a period of 2 to 7 days and commonly used during real estate transactions
- Long-term testing: Conducted over 90 days or longer to better reflect average annual radon levels
When Radon Testing Is Recommended
- During real estate transactions
- Before installing a radon mitigation system
- After mitigation to verify system performance
- Periodically as part of ongoing indoor air quality monitoring
- When structural changes are made to the home
Understanding Test Results
Radon levels can fluctuate due to weather conditions, seasonal changes, and building characteristics. A single test represents conditions during the testing period and should be interpreted in context.
If elevated levels are identified, further testing or mitigation may be recommended.
